JA Company of the Year Competition
JA Company of the Year Competition is JA’s annual celebration of the students that had participated in the JA Company Program. The JA Company Program is a 12 weekly session course that teaches the students how to start a company, sell shares in a company, learn the different functions of a company, decide what product or service they want to sell, sell it, and at the end, liquidate their company, distribute profits to their shareholders and write an annual report.
Thus this event culminates the program where JA Companies proudly present the results of their enterprise and learning experiences. At this competition, JA Companies appear before a panel of independent judges who determine company performance against the competition criteria as compared with other JA Companies at each stage of the competition process. The goal of the competition is to balance the business achievements of each team as a whole with the personal development of each individual member. Therefore, for a team to win this competition, it is not sufficient just to run a financially successful JA Company or to have created an exciting product or service, but the members must demonstrate that they understand how and why the company performed as it did. Judges will be looking for evidence of innovation and the application of new ideas in all aspects of running the company. They also will look for an understanding that continuous improvement through innovation is essential to the success of a business. There are 5 stages to the competition:
