JA It's My Business! ®

JA It’s My Business! provides an engaging, academically, enriching, and experiential learning sessions in entrepreneurship. The program emphasizes entrepreneurship while providing a strong focus on social studies, reading, and writing skills. Students are encouraged to use critical thinking to learn entrepreneurial skills that support positive attitudes as they explore and enhance their career aspirations. Six required, volunteer-led lessons. 

JA It’s My Business! is a series of six lessons. The average time for each activity is 60 minutes. Extended learning opportunities were developed to enhance and extend core activities. JA It’s My Business! provides interactive, take-home materials for students. Materials are packaged in a self-contained kit that includes detailed lesson plans for the volunteer and enough materials for all the students. 

JA It’s My Business will provide an engaging, academically enriching, and experiential learning sessions in entrepreneurship.  The students will be able to:
  • Define entrepreneurship;
  • Identify four key entrepreneurial characteristics;
  • Describe how entrepreneurs fill a market need;
  • Discuss the role of market research in determining market need and competitive advantage;
  • Recognize how being creative and innovative are necessary entrepreneurial skills for starting a business;
  • Develop business plans based on a set criteria.
Following participation in the program, students will be able to apply their entrepreneurship skills to education, career, and service pursuits.  

All JA programs are designed to support the skills and competencies identified by the Partnership for 21st Century Skills. These programs also augment school-based, work-based, and connecting activities for communities with school-to-work initiatives.
