JA Our City®

Picture
JA Our City studies careers, the skills people need to work in specific careers, and how businesses contribute to a city. Five required, volunteer-led lessons.

JA Our City is a series of five lessons. The average time for each lesson is 60 minutes. Materials are packaged in a self-contained kit that includes detailed activity plans for the volunteer and materials for students.

The goals and objective of the Program are:
  • help students discover a variety of occupations;
  • help students identify what types of businesses can be found in a typical city; develop the students' understanding of how workers apply their skills to their jobs;
  • heighten the students' awareness of the contributions of businesses to a city.

All JA programs are designed to support the skills and competencies identified by the Partnership for 21st Century Skills. These programs also augment school-based, work-based, and connecting activities for communities with school-to-work initiatives.
